This week we met Jackson's ENT an audiologist to go over his MRI and CT scan results he had done the week before in preparation to cochlear implants. We were hoping for better news than what we recieved. In order to have an implant you need to have a structurally sound cochlea and you must have a cochlear nerve. During our visit Dr. Fucci explained that they could not find the nerve for the left ear. He did however find a cochlear nerve for the right ear, but he said it was hypoplastic. Basically this means the nerve is there, but it is not of great quality and size, meaning it is not the most optimal for implantation. He felt that we should go ahead and at least try with the implant on the right and see what happens. He felt that there may still be a chance for success. As for the left ear, he did not feel now is the right time. He said if the right side takes well then we could try the left later even though it may be a shot in the dark. He felt he couldn't justify surgery on the left ear if he wasn't even fully confident that the right side would take. So in the mean time we are still keeping our scheduled surgery date which is June 13th for the right side. We will know right away if the nerve is responding after surgery because they will test the nerve before he goes home that day, but we will not know to what extent the response is for awhile. We will just have to watch him and see how he responds in the following weeks and months. Honestly, I was a little sad to hear the results at first. We were not expecting this news. But we are just going to pray for the best and know that whatever happens is heavenly fathers plan for Jackson. We are going to do a fast for Jackson on fast Sunday. The first week in June. Anyone who would like to join us is welcome. I just hope for the best for this sweet little boy.

I took this picture of Jacks foot with his hospital band on it after his scans. He has the cutest little feet.
