Jackon is hearing.
Here is the latest update on Jackson. He is doing super well!! He is almost graduated out of physical therapy now. He only has to go every 6 weeks now until he is walking. Once he is walking he will graduate. His physical therapist says he is doing great. He is also doing great with his implant. He finally started hearing a few sounds about a month or two ago. His first sound he responds to is clapping. I about freaked out the first time he turned around to find me when I clapped at him. I was so excited. It took me 3 days to teach him to listen to it. To get him to pay attention I have to repeat things over and over again and give a lot of praise. If a sound doesn't mean anything to him he won't listen to it. I didn't realize how much work it would be. Now he can hear clapping, pounding or banging noises, or anything that is loud and sharp. He also started going to a school for the deaf once a week for an hour. It's called Desert Voices. It is a school for deaf kids with implants or hearing aids with potential for hearing and developing speech. He meets with a speech therapist for an hour and they play games and work with him on associated sounds with objects. They are fantastic and I love his speech therapist. They feel he is definitely responding to some speech sounds and is progressing really well. He is not consistent with much yet, but I can see the progress each time I go. It is going to be a long process. His audiologist has been testing him also at his check up visits and feels he is responding well also. WOW! I really didn't think that he would even do this well. I am so excited. I can't wait to see how much this implant can do for him and what his potential will be. We just have to work with him the best we can and keep hoping for more improvement.

Shelby!! That is so fantastic! What amazing progress. I am so glad we have so many skilled people to care for us when we need them. Great job Jackson!
That is so wonderful. I am so excited for you. It must be so fun to see his progress.
I can't tell you how thrilling that news is!! We know therapists well around here too and they really do WONDERS for our little ones. You are such good parents and are REALLY on the ball with everything, I have no doubts that Jackson is going to lead a VERY fullfilling, wonderful life because of all the help/opportunities to learn and hear that you guys have provided for him. GO JACKSON!
PS We passed out of Physical Therapy too just recently, and I feel your excitement in a huge accomplishment like this!!
YAY Jackson!!! So excited for him, and YOU guys!!
We need to get together soon....
:) It looks like it's almost time for some first birthday pics. I KNOW you won't call me randomly, so I'm telling you...CALL ME.
lol.
Shelby, I'm so happy for you guys and Jack. That is so incredible that the implant is helping him hear. What a cute little guy! He's so lucky to have you as his mommy to help him learn to listen.
What fantastic news, congratulations!
